The last few weeks have been difficult, but I can safely say that the craving that I felt in the first few days of quitting cigarettes has now disappeared. The mini-battles continue every day. At the office is where I get tested consistently and that’s when I’m most tempted to light up - when all my friends are take a smoking break. It’s almost like I’ve sacrificed a social gathering to stay away from nicotine. It’s not like I’ve lost any friends over it, they are all actually pretty supportive of me, but it certainly has put me back on all the interesting personal stories that get exchanged during smoking breaks.

I’ve found great distractions without resorting to the patch or gum. I now eat a whole lot healthier. Fresh fruit was my savior on many occasions in those vulnerable first cig-free days. My office desk has a fruit basket that I fill with fresh fruit everyday, and I’ve even stocked up on more at home. I guess some people substitute one habit for another, so why not something that’s good for you? Plus, nobody ever died of eating too much fruit…not that I know of anyway…

Well so far so good. The temptations are always there: when I have a nice drink at the bar, after a good meal, with that cup of coffee in the morning, but I’ve resisted so far, and I’m hoping that will not change in the future.
